With the sun shining and the birds chirping this Monday should be the reflection that better days are around the corner.
“Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; and yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are ye not much better than they?” – Matthew 6:26
If even the birds can worship our Lord why can’t we? Worship is a big part of the Church and its important that we do so in spirit and in truth. So what’s stopping us from being free worshippers?
This weekend was amazing, our annual youth conference where to worship broke out during the evenings song set. It was admirable to look at all those who were worshipping but it makes you wonder why there are still those who don’t partake.
Thebridge.com provides a well thought out explanation to why we as believers sometimes lack in our worship.
Five Hindrance to Worship
When Jesus was spending time with Mary and Martha he saw two aspects of the Christian life. One was service and the other worship. Both are good, but one is better. Jesus let them know that Mary had chosen the better path to worship. Martha was unable to worship like that because she was distracted by serving.
Even the good things we do for God can be a distraction from worship.
We can’t worship God and be angry or bitter at other Christians. John put it best in 1 John 4:20Open in Logos Bible Software (if available) “If anyone says, ‘I love God,’ and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen.” Basically, if you have a problem with other Christians, then make that right before you come and try to pretend like you love God.
One of the biggest hindrances to worship for me personally is feeling like I was not worthy to come to God because of my bad behavior. The closer it was to my sin, the more ashamed and unworthy I felt. This is unfortunate, because God is the very first person we should come to when we sin! He has forgiven us of all of our sins, and by faith we need to accept his approval, and worship him no matter what we have just done.
Biblical ignorance keeps people from worshiping God in Spirit and truth. You can’t worship what you don’t know, and you can’t know God unless you are a student of His word. The Bible teaches us about Jesus.
This is referring mostly to the fear of man. What will my friends think about me if I sing? Will people think I’m weird if I raise my hands? Won’t I look dumb or hypocritical? These questions are all rooted ultimately in pride and the fear of man. Don’t be so concerned what other people think. The real question is, “What does God think?”
This weeks song is Free Worshipper by Todd Dulaney
Free to dance and sing, Free to lift my hands and worship, Lord I’m free, Lord I’m free.
I’m a free Worshipper, I’m a free Worhipper, I’m a free Worshipper. Lord I’m free.
I thank God I’m Free and I’ll never be bound again.
Ohh, Ohh, Ohh, Lord I’m Free
Whom the Son set free is free indeed
I am free. Praise the Lord I’m free.
No longer bound. No more chains holding me.
My soul is resting. It’s just a blessing. Praise the Lord Hallelujah I’m Free.
