Dear Monday… I love you.
Haha here’s another dose of Music Monday 🙂
I use to struggle to be happy. All I wanted was to be happy! The problem was my definition of happiness was wacky.
Happiness in this life is the ultimate goal of most people. Although the world defines happiness in worldly terms (fame, fortune & glory) they will never achieve lasting happiness because it is focused upon temporal things. God defines happiness in 1 Peter 3:8-12
8 Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:
9 Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.
10 For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:
11 Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.
12 For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.
Our key to happiness are in these passages focused on an inherit blessing. When Christians try to be happy according to the world’s definition, we will be distracted from our eternal goal, falter in our faith & finally lose our soul and end up unhappy – Matt. 6:19-21.
We must avoid the world’s counterfeit version of true happiness.
Please note: Happy people do not only & always experience pleasant things in life.
Happiness includes fulfillment:
- From family – Psa. 127:3-5
- From labor – Psa. 128:2
- From wisdom – Prov. 3:13,18
- From showing mercy & kindness – Prov. 14:21
- From trusting the Lord (obeying God) – Prov. 16:20
- From reverence for God – Prov. 28:14
- From honouring & obeying God’s law – Prov. 29:18
- From fearing God & obeying Him – Psa. 128:1
In conclusion, our source of happiness must be the Lord, not ourselves!
28 Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the LORD, The Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. 29 He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength. 30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall, 31 But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint. (Isa. 40:28-31)
When our faith is secured in God, we will have the happiness to live life knowing our true happiness comes from walking with God.
As Henry Ward Beecher said, “The strength and the happiness of a man consists in finding out the way in which God is going, and going in that way, too.” Which way are you going today?
This week’s song is Wanna Be Happy by Kirk Franklin!!!
I just wanna be happy
But if I keep on doing the things
That keep on bringing me pain
There’s no one else I can blame
If I’m not happy
Wasted time but now I can see
The biggest enemy is me
So I’m not happy
Cry yourself to sleep
Shout and raise your hands
It wont change a thing child
Until you understand
If you’re tired of being the same
If you’re tired of things not changing
It’s time for you to get out the way
Don’t get stuck in how you feel
Say Jesus take the wheel
He knows the road that you need to take
(But it only works if)
If you wanna be happy
(Look at yourself and say)
Don’t you wanna be happy
I just wanna be happy
